3 Rooms to Declutter for a More Peaceful Home
The link between our mental health and our physical spaces is legitimate. It’s so easy to get stressed out or worsen a bad mood when our space is cluttered and hard to function in. Here are 3 rooms in your home you can declutter today for more peace!
The bedroom:
- Lone socks – if you haven’t found the pair by now, it’s most likely gone forever.
- Your wardrobe- this should get done more often than you probably do it! Find clothes you no longer wear and aim to donate or gift them.
- Your closet – the non-clothes are of your closet! Looking at you, closet floor. Lots of things can fall to the back of our closets without us even realizing it.
- Underwear – if you don’t reach for them, toss them.
- Shoes – the ones you keep telling yourself you’ll need one day. (You won’t)
- Jewelry – donate or gift items you don’t wear.
- Belts – the ones with the broken notches or that don’t match any of your clothes.
- Bags – don’t be a bag hoarder, donate the ones you don’t use! Just make sure to check the pockets first.
- Trinkets – whether they be souvenirs or odds and ends you’ve collected over the years. If they’re collecting dust, consider getting rid of them.
- Buttons, safety pins, etc – things you think will come in handy but never will.
The bathroom:
- Empty bottles – am I the only one who holds on to these for no reason?
- Expired products – medicine, makeup, and skincare all have expiration dates.
- Products you don’t like – makeup, skincare or hair products you wanted to love but just didn’t.
- Samples – ever been gifted makeup/skincare/perfume samples you’ll never use? Yeah, time to toss them.
- Hotel toiletries – if you’re one to collect those tiny shampoo and conditioner bottles from the hotel bathroom, I have some news for you: you’re never going to sue them. Throw them away!
- Nail polish – dried-up bottles or just ones you don’t reach for.
- Extra hair items – you don’t need a thousand bobby pins or hair ties. Time to minimalize!
The Kitchen:
- The junk drawer – the receipts, rubber bands, twist ties and whatever else has ended up here!
- Take out menus – they’re all online now, toss the physical ones!
- The fridge – we could all use a bi-weekly deep clean of our fridges.
- Counter appliances – you know, that breadmaker you bought in 2020 thinking you’d make all your own bread.
- Extra linens – towels, rags, and even tablecloths- all things you never use.
- Tupperware – if you’re scared to open the drawer/cupboard, it’s time to get rid of some of those containers.
There is your short but mighty list of things to declutter in your home! It will only take a few hours so blast your favourite playlist or audiobook and get to work! Your brain will thank you.
