Last Minute Halloween Costumes you can Thrift!

Caity Rose

Store-bought Halloween costumes create so much waste every single year. Since they’re usually cheaply made and trend-driven, they’re often single-use. This leads us to donate or throw out costumes every single year.

But did you know there are so many popular costume ideas you can thrift? Not only is is cheaper and more sustainable but in purchasing multiple clothing pieces to create a costume the likelihood of those individual pieces being worn again increases significantly!

Here are some last-minute Halloween Costumes you can thrift!

1. Wednesday Addams

Miss Wednesday Addams will always be in style in October. Her style is classic and is easily found at the thrift store! or in what you already own.

All you need is a black dress (that can vary with polka dots or stripes!), a white collared top to go underneath, and some black tights and shoes! Then throw on some dark-colored lip-stick and put your hair in braids and you’re done!

2. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has so many iconic looks across all of her tours. Finding cute trendy pieces to put together at the thrift store isn’t usually a problem! Especially thanks to the rate Shein items are donated.

Take a look through all the items at your local thrift for bright, sparkly, eye-catching pieces. You can even carry a mic or guitar to add to the look!

It doesn’t get easier than our classic Kim Possible! A black long-sleeve top, green pants, black gloves and throw on a little belt for good measure! All of these things are super easy to find at a thrift store!

4. Velma from Scooby-Doo

This is such a fun costume to re-create! My friends and I went as Scooby and the gang in high school and won our costume contest! All our outfits were thrifted too! Just an orange turtleneck, socks and a red skirt! Easy peasy!

5. Easy A

Easy A is easily one of the most iconic movies from the mid-2000s. It put Emma Stone on the map and corsets have never been the same. Head to the lingerie section of your thrift store (just trust me on this one) and you should be able to find a corset top! Wear it with black jeans and heels and don’t forget to cut out a little red “A” to tape on the chest. Voila!
